I was thinking mossberg 500,for economics and ease of changing barrels and acc.. He wants to learn to shoot trap/skeet and will also want to add a different barrel with a scope mount for deer hunting in a few years. Anybody got any ideas???:D And how might I look to get him started in trap and skeet and whats the difference. I just though it was all clay pidgeon shooting...:dunno: I always just blowed up stumps n such, they don't move..:p:

I personaly like the Remington 870. They have ben around forever and you can get tons of parts and upgrades. I got started in trap and skeet with my buddies. I bought a 40.00 spring loaded thrower and went from there.

Mossberg has a package with shot barrel and slug barrel that's pretty good, other than that I would go with a Rem. 870 or Wingmaster.

I have a Remington 870 and it is a great shotgun. It has the interchangeable choke so you can use it for everything from yotes to skeet.

Remington just seems to be about 50% more, everywhere I look and Mossberg has all the sam options as far as I can see...

trap is when the clays shoot out in front of you. skeet is when the either come from the right or left of you, or both. skeet is alot harder, trap is pretty easy.

Good eye, RJ. My grampa bought this one new in 1953. I still have the wax paper owners manual for it. I like it better than a pump, cause its recoil operated, so less felt recoil. Browning got Remington to produce the first ones, until he could talk FN in Belguim into producing them. At one point, SEARS even had a copy, but the receiver was aluminum.:eek1:

Fumes you said this for jr right? Has he shot the 12 g yet? If the 12 g is too big for him the 20 might be good for him. I have a Ruger Red Label over/under 20 g and I love it. It is great for trap/skeet, quail, dove, and rabbit. It's a little small for duck and shooting metal through and over under is not good it wears the barrells out since they don't have removeable chokes.

You don't have to buy a mechanical thrower for him you can always get the hand thrower and see if he is going to stick with it or not.

They only run about $10-$15 bucks. So you have one hand for the adult beverages and the other hand for throwing clay targets for jr.

Winchester Ranger compact field grade. I couldnt find it on their website but I bought one last year from Wally World on sale for $175.00 or so. That would be a good place to start without jumping in with both feet. Wanna shoot it ? It hasent been fired yet. We could stand on your deck, Blinker can climb a tree across the crick and hold out a clay bird and the kids could try to shoot em... Get some beer, ear plugs and saftey glasses and we'll be over. :thumb:
