Just had a thought about taxes while sitting on the can /forums/images/graemlins/ignore.gif

Anyway, what about a National Property Tax and Sales Tax (food exempt) to replace the current Income Tax?

I think it would be simpler since most states/countys already have a system of one or both in place.

No more need to file paperwork each year, just have the county send the bill to the land owner like they already do or pay your sales tax at the shopping checkout.

Money spent on things like a mortage, doctor bills, utilities, and college would not come from taxed revenue so there would be no need for complex forms or formula's to figure out exemptions or deductions.

People that are poor would pay less tax by default since they would typically own less expensive homes or rent (where property tax is typically split between many renters and passed on thru rent payments).

It would be more difficult for people to cheat the system since it is a pay as you go and easy to assess.

Good idea, but I don't think it'd fly... not with the way the fine founders of this land have set up the government anyway...

You'd see rent increase dramatically as real-estate investors now pay Fed taxes on their properties. Businesses that dont own real-estate would love it though, especially service businesses since they would only pay tax on the items they purchased. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
