Glad I found this forum! Just bought an 86 K5 and I want to know what I have, I know very little about these trucks except they are cool as s**t! It needs the usual body work for a truck this age and I'm cool with that. I don't plan on using it off road alot, but I bet that will change, LOL.

    The door sticker lists:
    GVW 6100
    GAWR FRT 3300
    GAWR RR 3550

and the glove box lists rear axle as 3:42 gear ratio.

    What do I have here?

Thanks in advance for help...and yes, I am searching the forum...

your front axle and rear axle will both be GM 10 bolts and the rear will most likely have a gov-lock limited slip differential.

IMHO 3.42 is TONS better than any 3.08 could ever be, performance-wise anyways

but then 3.42 isnt whole bunch deeper than 3.08 is, the 700r4 4th gear will set you at basiclaly same lower RPM as with 3.08, just a tiny hair higher RPM

6100GVW is how much entire truck can weigh when fully max loaded down with cargo/payload
