[rant]Gawd, does most new music suck!!! Sat there last night and turned on "Headbangers Ball", and for thirty solid minutes, out of five or six videos, one song was worth a [darn], and that was a Slayer tune from ten or fifteen years ago. That, and at every commercial break, they were trying shove some band called "Mushroomhead" down my throat. Seemed like all the songs they were playing sounded like old thrash, which saw it's heyday eons ago, Rusty, and wasn't worth a [darn] then either. I don't feel as I'm old (33) by any stretch of the imagination, but what happened to all the talent. The only bands that have put out listenable music, IMO, in the last couple of years seem to be Monster Magnet and (gulp) the White Stripes. I listen to all kinds of hard rock, but I can't even stand to listen to the radio anymore because all you hear is rehashed corporate rock. [darn], they all sound the same!!!!! And don't even get me started about limp bisquik, the tonedeafs, stinkin' fart, or any other of these rap/rock hybrid POS's[/rant] So I ask you, gentle reader, what bands are out there that can carry a tune? You may now return to your regularly scheduled programming. Thanks.

well... in the split of white zombie into two distinct groups, rob zombie's band and powerman5000, i have found both to be of the utmost rockage. wz wasn't really my cup of tea and i only cared for a few songs. i love the new zombie image as it is a blast to the past type of rock and pm5k is a hyper-energized rock/metal/bang your head and blow your speakers type of music and i dig that for sheezy, yo. i am actually going back to the roots here lately, i have had the extreme ii pornograffiti album in the cd player for over two weeks and am not tired of it yet. prior to that was queensryche for nearly a month. silent lucidity sounds great in my wifes truck.

Yes, pm5K and Zombie are both good bands, but have been out there awhile. Queensryche is old school. I have a black and white flyer, that gives their bio's and a brief history of the band, when they released their first EP! What I'm looking for are new bands that are good, but alas, that may like trying to find a living dinosaur. I've got a good size music collection, but nothing really that has been released in the past 5+ years. So what are the good NEW bands, if any. Oh yeah, Audioslave doesn't count, cause that's really just a good band that found a great singer that has been around.

Well, I never much cared for girl signers in hard rock bands, but I :gulp: I do admit that I like Evanesence. Pretty hard rock with a girl singer. My wife bough the CD and I gave a listen..it thumps plenty hard in my system.

I DO agree with you, there aren't a whole lot of mainstream rock bands out there that are any good. I have been listening to a lot of my older stuff like Metallica (pre-black), Candlebox, Bush, Creed, Van Halen, AC/DC (I think they're last album sucked arse! /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif). Stuff like that.

I wuz listening to that on my way to work this morning /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif I was in the mood for something different, and I really dislike all the morning talk radio. I turn it on long wnough to find out which route I need to take in to work and then I turn on the CD! /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

[/ QUOTE ] Me too, but Christ, there are only so many times I can listen to (insert album title here) before I just want to hear something different. Evanessence(sp?) isn't quite my cup of tea, but thanks for the try. I generally listen to AC/DC (Bon Scott), 'tallica, Danzig, Monster Magnet, Priest, VH, etc. Blues based hard rock ('cept Metallica) for the most part. Just seems all I'm hearing anymore is amped up college music, or rap/rock. What happened to good old rock and roll?

Well, it looks like we're hitting that age our parents did when we were kids. My mom used to b*tch about my music just like her parents b*tched about hers. It'll happen to us all eventually. I try to listen to all kinds of music mainly so I'll know what my kids are into. Right now they are into what I consider bubble gum pop ('cept for my boy, he LOVES old AC/DC stuff /forums/images/graemlins/deal.gif). I only listen to it so I can know what they are into. Hurts my ears though /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

If you like blues-based, heavy guitar rock n' roll, I suggest you check out Big Sugar. They have sound all to their own. Go to a music sharing site and download their cover of "Dear Mr. Fantasy", "Nicotina" or "All Hell for a Basement" to see what I'm talking about, brother. I'd have to say that Big Sugar are one of my all time good rockin' faves.

    *EDIT*

I just noticed that you were looking for good NEW bands. Big Sugar has been around for a while. Sorry, but I can't suggest any good up and coming rock n roll bands except maybe Nickleback or maybe Tea Party. Of course Tea Party isn't that new either........ /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Don't know how I overlooked it, but have you heard Zakk Wylde's new band Black Label Society? They do a pretty hard cover of Neil Young's "Heart of Gold". Not bad.......

And if you haven't heard of Steel Dragon(download "Stand Up"), check them out too. Hard rockin mofos. But there's a little story behind this band...... /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Metallica, Megadeth "geezer rock"? Damn, I must be a geezer /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif As far as skynard, floyd, and the eagles, they are no where near "heavy". Saw from Autumn to Ashes on MTV2-nope they're corporate. Static X is o.k., but they try too hard. Mudvayne is alright, the wifey likes 'em. White Stripes are good. Seven Nation Army kicks ass. Popeye Roach and System of a Down-NOOOOOO!!!!! I guess I'm just gettin' old. Thanks for dropping the names.

Paul, thanks for the suggestions. BLS is badass, but they've been around for a minute. Since I have never heard of any of the other bands you suggested, I'll consider them new. Thanks.

gees, i guess im just screwed up as far as music goes, lol. I have an 8 track in my 75 silverado, and i got styx, eagles, beatles, doors, and other stuff around that time. i have some ska, punk, and metal, thats all good, but after a while it starts to blend together for me. haha, this is were everyone laughs at me, i know, but I could play/ listen to scarbourogh fair or the boxer by simon & garfunkle for hours and still be good. I guess I missed out on all the good stuff and im the only one that thinks that, sorry, lol -pete /forums/images/graemlins/k5.gif /forums/images/graemlins/truck.gif /forums/images/graemlins/usaflag.gif

Nope, you're not the only one. I have Eagles, Petty, CDB, Skynrd, etc. and I'm just 19. New music sucks balls IMO. (most of it that is, I do like Rammstein and Evanescence, and I'm sure I would like more of RA's songs if I would take the time to get ahold of some).

Naw, there ain't nothing wrong w/ the Eagles, Skynard, Petty or any of the others mentioned. It's just not my taste for music, personally. I was eluding to the fact that most new rock/metal/whatever you want to call it today, lacks soul and depth. Watched some more crap on that channel last night, and apparently if it's not rap/rock, it's some idiot screaming gutterly into the microphone. Christ Almighty, I have bowel movements that sound like that! No talent needed, as long as you have a bald guy as the front man, the masses will worship you! Sorry, I'm just gettin' old and grumpy /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

i see what u mean. yeah, i agree, it looks like most (not all) but most music as far as metal is not what it used to be. It seems like now a days if you go out and by an electric guitar, learn 3 power chords and scream you can be the biggest and best new thing...but thats me, go figure, lol
