    You'll dig it.....

Be sure to download "Bendin' Tube 101" from PBB if you haven't already. It's a good primer on bending, and the techniques really DO work....

I have been wanting one for a long while now, but finally deicded to when I got some extra Christmas money... I am goign to start out slow and probably build a front bumper for my p/u.. SOmething like a prerunner and then go up from there... Actually, I need to build a stand first but that will be just regular welding. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

After I get used to using it, If people are interested I can start on some side projects to ship out. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Well....the 120v welders are basically for sheet metal....
but I cheat a little by using the torches to pre-heat....
Tri-gas also helps penetration and gives you less spadder when using higher voltages.

Rene and I were talking about the welders. Since the tubing I will be welding will be no more than .120 wall he felt the my Lincoln 135 amp 110v should do a good job if I get a good weld on it. Maybe if I scrape, I can find a good price on a 220 mig in the near future... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Yes you can get decent penetration with a 110 welder. A lot of that depends on the one holding the nozzle. Anyone can lay down a pretty weld, but it takes a lot of practice to lay down a deep weld with either a 110 OR a 220. And flux core is a great bet for deep penetration.

*in my best Butthead voice* Huh..Huh..Huh... He said deep penetration! LOL

Luckily I have a friend that is a welder in a mill so hopefully he can lend a hand at first. He welded up the custom frame for my bros Jeep project. When the AGA(welding supply people) guy came in the shop one day he looked at the welds and couldn't believe how nice they were so he must know what he is doing. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Too bad I didn't live close to Rene too! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Have you ever used the Tri-gas for the MIG?
I crank-up my welder.....and the wire basically sprays at whatever you are welding. Faster penetration....smoother welds. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I've used flux-core before....that's what I started with....but with ALL the bodywork I do.....I stay away from flux with bondo.....

As far as .120 goes....sure it will work great. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
You don't need much heat when welding tubing seams....
I was talking about the bumper thing.....using thicker metals. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

    Here's my 120v Lincoln, it's a 100 amp.

Thanks for the article and the tip. I'm just a newbie to the 4x4 boards, not to the world of 4x4's. Just picked up a 1980 K5 and was looking for some new ideas

I just ordered some hydraulics to convert my MB105 HD; trying to bend 2"x.120" gets a little annoying after awhile. Have fun with the bender!
