We had some NASTY weather roll through this evening. I dont know how many trees got blown down over the roadways. Anyhow, to make a long story short, One of our Deputies called out bout 5 miles from the house with a downed tree on a major traffic route. Radio said it would be an hour or two before d.o.t. or the fire dept could respond due to the mass of similer calls. I got hold of my LT and he said to drop my patrol car and get the K5 and chain saw. Cut a 2ft diamiter pine tree in half, hookup up the 20k lb. snatch strap and drug it out of the way. Aint nothing like turfing up a grassy right of way with 36" swampers. You ought to have seen the folks gawkin when I pulled up in the Beast and jumped out in uniform, then when I got out the chain saw and started cutting jaws dropped.

Now, if you could only write off your K5 on your taxes as a work related expense [IMG] Or better yet get your dept to buy you winch.

"Uh, Sir? Ummmm, well i was wondering, uhhh, since i DID use the Blazer as a work vehicle last week, uhhh, and i might have to again soon, umm, well, Sir, I was wondering if the Dept. could cut me a check for a few thousand dollars, for a new winch, 4 new tires, and a full tank of gas, it would really be appreciated, uh.....hello? Sir? Are you there? Sir?"

Maybe you should get some black and white spray paint and paint the doors white and the rest black with a buble gum machine up top. [IMG] I have seen a few K9 K5's like this but not with 36" swamps, you could get a sticker that says "slow down or I will run over you"

Did you at least take the time to do a little flex testing on your rig before removing it? >8O

So, which one of you is the brains of the operation?
To tell you the truth it's not exactly a "brains" type operation.

Would be really really ugly painted terd brown. The light bar across the roof would look cool though, would not last long on the trail. Already got an HS9500i on the front, although the Gas thing would happen if I asked!

I did flex the hell out of it just to get to the tree, I did not want to break out the winch cable and remove in a downpoar unless I had to, so I did it with the strap, had to get close to the tree cause the strap was only 20 ft long. So down and over and across a pretty big ditch was the only way to get there I had to start the pull while halfway up the ditch sideways, so they axles were pretty twisted up!

I'd vote for a sticker that says-"Stop blocking the Fast lane or I'll run over you!" I used to get to use my K/5 sometimes doing construction, won quite a few bets on muddy constuction site bogs.

ain't it grand when ya got a whole line of sub-compactor's stuck in a line cause noone can go around the downed tree,,so you gently romp over the stone piles right beside the quarry,,back up,,hook up,,and give 'er a good yank,,,,,,,and everyone applaud's ya,,,,then the township show's up,,and then the cop's,,, and the township takes credit for doing yur work,,,,but then at the mini mart across the street 20 people come ask you a million question's about yur rig,,hehehe,,ain't life grand!![IMG]

You need one of those sticker/magnet thingamabobs that has county sheriff on it adn then get one of those magnetic lights that you can pop out the window and throw on the top like starky and hutch, you know those under cover lights. Now that would be cool. Then turn in an expense check when ever you have to bring her out for the county or just request and extra day off every time you have to pull the county out of a ditch. LOL!!!!

Way to go Dep. Bravo. I bet you had a grin from ear to ear that night.

Will work for beer, parts and tools.

Nothing quite as exciting as Dep's, but I've got red & white lights for my fire department job in my truck. There has been 2 times I've had to use my truck for County Assistance Response Calls. The first time was for a stuck postal Truck. Nothing special, just a tug, the other time was a real old guy miss judged a turn, missed the road but made it down a set of rail road tracks about 125'. 3 tires were off the ground, and we were expecting a train to be coming. Actually what happend was the cop had no idea what to do. He was sitting there scratching his head. I pulled up and asked him what he was going to do. He had no idea. I pointed out the time and told him that a train usually came through about 9:15 and we needed to get that car off the tracks. It was about 8:50ish or so. Well he had no idea how to contact the train people, I told him where to get the numbers, then I offered to get the car off the tracks due to a bout a 25-20min eta on the wrecker. He ( & about 50 other bystanders) didn't think I'd beable to get the car off the tracks. I locked the hubs, and left it 2wd (for show) and drove out on the tracks. Got up by the car and pulled out a strap, hooked it up, and backed up. Every body was clapping and hooting/hollering. I made it a good distance but then the truck just started to spin. The bystanders made a loud "awl....) I spun the tires a couple seconds more, moved forward and jerked the car a bit. The ting that was stopping me was about a 1' drop off from the pavement to the tracks gravel bed. After hearing some schmuck in a dodge something or another say that he knew my "CHEVY" wasn't going to beable to make it. This guy was about 15' away from my truck standing on the road. I looked at him and said "wanna bet?" Reached down, put it in 4lo and presto! both vehicles were on pavement! I loved it. Well, we got the car back up on the road, the P.S. rear tire was flat, radiator was wasted & the exhasut was bent to the point of barely being able to let exhaust get through it. So I got iT into the parking lot next to the tracks, the officer and I put on his spare, and the cop let him drive it like that. I doubt he was able to make it all the way home because of how badly it was leaking antifreeze. But the officer followed him anyway.

Well, those are my exciting stories. Just thought I'd pass it on.

ROFLMAO, nah, just get a couple of wig wag relays and wire them to the front and rear driving lights, then slap some of those saran wrap plastic covers, the ones with the elastic in them, the Medium ones are BLUE, instant law enforcement. I dont think they could afford the milage, although if we get a nasty snow and ice storm I have told them I will transport jailers and such for my overtime pay and GAS for the Beast.

Seems like mine sees a fair amount of time for the dept. out on the trails in the summer. Something about the Chief not wanting us wheelin' with a sedan. (A Whelen Edge does look kickass on a lifted blazer!!)

Why do people keep calling it a Bronco!!!!!
