How about a sealed airbox with snorkel.

    Exactly.

If you are diving into deep water with an open cleaner, there's something seriously wrong with ya.

he said hes not trying to build a snorkel, which to me would mean hes worried maybe about the fan throwing water onto the air cleaner or water splashing up when romping around.. not deep water crossings..

Paper air filters let almost no water in...they just absorbe it and clog up. It will let some water through but not as much as a K&N...so why not just get a paper filter keep a spare with you.

I gave up on my open element K&N a while ago, got tired of cleaning it after use in the mud. I just use paper filters in the stock air cleaner. If you can get a K&N or something similiar for a stock air cleaner that would probably work better than an open element. Might be more expensive?? /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif
