ok, i have to find out if 77-79 K20 front 44 axles used the smallest size U joint or not, because thats what it looks like is on my neighbor's 79 K20, reason why is that i need to use a 77-79 front shaft under the 83/84 with the 203 and th350 thats been put under it, its the length i need and hopefulyl the U joint size that will work in whihc is what im trying to find out right now,

    basically did 83 84 K10 10 bolt axle use same u joint size as 77-79 K20 ?

narrow overall joint width- from cap to cap-
    and small diameter caps ?

    thanks

Should be the larger 297 joint for both ther 44 and the 10b. The new Spicer 5-760 is an even tougher version of the 297.

As with anything the best way is to compare, they may have been swapped for the earlier versions at an earlier time....

Does this mean you have now joined the 4x4 club??????

so k20 44 joint should be same size caps and overall width as 83 84 k10 10 bolt right ? cuz man the 79 k20 44 u joint yoke looks identical to 1/2 ton 83 84 10 bolt yoke size to me,

    thanks

Yes, they are the same: 5-297 or 5-760 (these are both the same size)

Should be the samu U-JOINT, unless earlier axle shafts were swapped into the 44. If you are trying to rob parts to get it up and going, from the u-joints out it all swaps, with the slight exception of the early 260 joints used in the 44.

no, not talking about guts of axles, just about pinion yoke from 10 bolt k10 1983 to dana 44 79 k20

just want to know if u joints for these two axles were same size as each other, its looking like they are, and thats what im hoping for

you would think that a k20 dana 44 would have a larger yoke and u joint than an 80s k10 10 bolt would, lol

crazy stuff,,. but hey im not complaining, this is actually a good thing for me right now.

    thanks!
