i just noticed something funny. my 82 had K5 on the body visible from any angle. when i got my 89 i noticed that there were no K5 markings but didnt think about it much. doing some part searching i found out that it may have been called a V 1500. can someone explain?

    Tell it to the Marines

I am pretty sure the V was started in 87 - 91. If you go to autozone you will have to say that your truck is a V10 instead of a K5. I am not sure why they chose this...

I'm not so sure about that starting in 89. The title for my 87 says V10 for model but still has K5 badges. I believe that they started using the V designation in 87 and started using the 1500 1/2 ton designation instead of 5 or 10 in 89.

When GM went to the new body style for pickups around '88 or so, they took the C and K (2WD and 4WD) designations with the new body style. Since the Blazers and Suburbans were still the old body style, they changed their designations to R and V. [IMG] Certainly not the first really stupid thing that GM has done over the years. [IMG]

Ah, Autozone and the attendant "Autozoners" I find myself telling the 12 year old behind the counter which selection is next on his computer... by the way V10 is selection 31 on the Autozone system. :-))

K10 is the one that's highlighted when it comes up, yet they always feel it's necessary to scroll down one to "K10 1/2 ton Sub 4wd" instead of just staying on the pickup like I tell them.

GM must have changed the designation during the '88 model year as my '88 3/4 ton is marked a V 2500.

The only badging on my '91 is a chevy bowtie followed by a 1500. When I want something I just tell them for a K5.
