Hi i am new to the board and am looking to buy a 79 blazer or a 79 K5 blazer. I was just wondering the differences between the 2 besides apperance. I'm guessing there is some suspension differences etc. They are both 350's. Thanks john

As far as I know, a blazer is a K5. K5 means that it is 4 wheel drive. If you look at pickups, they have the C series, which are 2 wheel drive and the K series, which are 4 wheel drive. I think the same might apply to the Blazers, but I could be wrong.

Same applies. The one he is referring to just being called a "Blazer" is the 2wd version. Get the K5 and call it a day :)

I think the only diff is that the K5 emblem fell of the first Blazer, just like mine I don't have a K5 Blazer anymore just a Cheyanne, LOL

In 1979 the only difference was 4 or 2 wheel drive.

Even the 2 wheel drive Blazers are still called K5's. No such thing as a C5. Weird but true.

    The K is for 4 wheel drive. A K30 is a 1 ton, a K20 is a 3/4 ton, a K10 is a 1/2 ton, and my $.02 is the K5 is a Blazer because it's not quite a 1/2 ton,(wheel is base too short).

I bealive. K= 4wd, 5= Blazer style wheel base. Butt... not positve of that.

Is a Jimmy a "k5"? Cause if is not, I need Steave to make another site for me. I've been calling mine a Blazer, just to fit in, but its realy a Jimmy. Potato-Potato. GMC has a cooler lookin grill.

My 81 2wd Blazer now with purring 454 had K5 emblems on it .I removed them and am planning some trick trim made from solid alumimum bar stock, can't seem to get off my lazy arse this spring.
