Key won\'t turn! Replaced cylinder already?

I've been having trouble getting my key to turn to the start position. Sometimes it won't turn, or i'll have to turn it hard all the way to barely get it to start. Just now I spent 5 mins trying to turn it and now my thumbs are sore.

So what's the problem if it's not the cylinder? Thanks.

long style screw driver, take the key out, put the screw driver between the two ears and crank on it, it'l either break or move thething. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Is the linkage to the actual starter switch, moving freely?it's just a long 1/8" rod, that connect's to the switch.
It's down low on the column.

i bet you have a worn out ignition switch /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif.. depending on how much dash you have still installed /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif(i have none) the fix is pretty easy...

take off all related stuff so you can drop the steering column down. on top is the ignition switch. there are some contacts in there and a return spring. mine were burnt out so they wouldn't slide...

do a search i know someone did a post about how to change it /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks, that worked. I'm going to go buy a new switch. Chilton's says I just need to drop the column, unplug the old and plug in the new one.
