When's the last time you had your timing checked? Or had your ignition cap off to inspect your weights and mechanical advance? I think you are trying to describe what's known as pinging, or pre-ignition. It almost always happens while accelerating, and can be attributed to either too much timing or dirty or sticky advance weights.

First of all, does the sound seem to come from under the hood?

Okay, that narrows it down. Do you know where the distributor is?

Well, underneath the cap, you'll find your mechanical advance setup. It's a spinning spring and weight dealy. Sometimes the arms get dirty which keeps them stuck in the advance position..........

This would be a LOT easier to explain the other way, brother. Most people really look forward to a call from the Can Man. :deal: :rotfl:

    Yeah, stop flooring it! :wink1:

Boy, you young guys just love beating on your vehicles.. :haha: its ok, I did it too at your age...

But with age comes wisdom, if I even remotely think somethings wrong, i'm babying it... heck, i'm babying it 99% of the time anyway.. :haha: why CAUSE parts to fail unnescesarily....

Enough with the lecture.. :p: You need to narrow this down for us a little to help you... It could be anything.... Big difference between a motor "knock" and "ping"... Does it sound like a paint can rattling?

It sounds like Can had you on the right track. Sounds like pre-ignition pinging to me from your description of heavy throttle and going up hills..

It can be caused by numerous factors. advanced timing (stuck weights, etc), lean conditions, overheating, wrong heat range plugs, low octane...

Does your motor have a knock sensor? It is a round shaped item threaded into the block down on the passenger side, down by the oil pan, right behind the motor mount. With a wire running to it.
