I am lactose entolerant, and have been for a while.

Previously I usually just get cold symptoms like stuffed up nose and sore throat. Lately I have been getting the common lactose entolerant problems like bloated stomach and gas...

Is it normal for it to change over like this? It mainly happens in higher dosage like ice cream. Just in the past 2 months this has happened.

    Thanks in advance.

Cheese doesn't bother me, but I don't usually have more than a slice or two a day on sandwhiches, that's all. No migraines here...

Some cheeses bother me. Milk and ice cream kill me... I tend to stay away from most any dairy. And use the Lactaid Fast Act pills regularly.... Sometimes I will take them even if there is a low to no dairy content just to be on the safe side.

Although a week or so ago I ate a piece of cheescake and was fine. Weird.

What are these pills you speak of? Do you take them right before the dairy meal and you are fine?

They are made by Lactaid. And can be found at any local Wal-Mart or simialr store.

    http://www.lactaid.com/products/index.jhtml?id=lactaid/products/dietsup.inc

You take them with the first bite of dairy. They supply the nezyme needed to break down the diry products in yourstomach since you stomach doesn't produce it anymore.

Have been using them for over a year now with good results. Can only think of once or twice where they didn't work, but it could've been user error.

I take one pill with my first bite for food with a low content of dairy. Or two for higher contents. Also, they suggest retaking the pill if you eat again after 30 mins or so....

Also, you can purchase Lactaid milk or Soy milk such as Silk or 8th Continent... The vanilla flavored Silk tastes similar to a bowl of milk after you got done eating fruity pebbles. :)

    Another possible alternative is Lactagen...
    http://www.lactagen.com/

It is a pill that supposedly "teaches" the body to produce the enzyme need to break down dairy again... You tak it for 38 days. But I've never foudn anyone who has used it. And the stomach specialist in our area has never heard of it.... So I am skeptical.

    **edit**

Here is a site with a lot of good readings on what to watch for on food labels and such..

    www.lactoseintolerant.org

Where I learned about Lactaid, lactagen and Parve foods(have a K with a circle around it on the label) which dont contain dairy.. Like Miricle Whip. :)

most of you may not agree with this., But... For maybe the last couple of years i started to get that way. Could not eat cheese drink milk so on and so forth. However i used to drink vitamin D milk everyday multiple times. Every since i had my surgery. And had my intestines and colon cleaned out completely. I have no issues at all with eating or drinking now. Moral of this little story is try to go and get some stuff called Fleet and clean your body out. And you should be fine. I would probably say do it twice. say one weekend do it then the next weekend do it again. But you will be on the crapper for a few hours after you drink this stuff.
