This is the last Canucktion of Round 1. Regardless of who gets the correct answer tonight, it looks like RJ wins this round. I'll start up a fresh round next week. Anyhow, on with tonight's question-

The year was 1922. The place was Colorado. This ended up being the first of its kind. What was it? What was it's "name"?

None of the above. Keep 'em coming. Remember, "first of its kind" means that it's probably still out there today.

The earliest reported case under the sodomy statute was Wilkins v. People,10 from 1922. In one of the sloppiest reported sodomy cases ever, the Colorado Supreme Court upheld Wilkins’s conviction, saying that his partner’s testimony was corroborated, as it promised to detail later in the opinion.11 Nevertheless, nothing in the short opinion gives a clue as to the corroboration used in the trial. On petition for rehearing, the Court acknowledged that it "overlooked" one of Wilkins’s assignments of error, the reputation of his partner as to previous sexual relations, which had been barred by the trial judge. In a single sentence, the court held that the trial judge had discretion as to admit the testimony.12

Standard Oil of Colorado was chartered in Denver in 1922. It was eventually rechartered under the name Standard Oil Company of Colorado in 1927. Standard Oil of Colorado was simply a scam to cash in on the Standard Oil name, and owned no wells, refineries, or gasoline stations. It was sued in 1931 by Standard Oil of Indiana (which was interested in expanding its marketing influence into the Colorado area) over use of the "Standard Oil" name. By 1934 Standard Oil Company of Indiana won the suit and Standard Oil of Colorado was disbanded.
