I had to drill into the carrier near the pinion shaft to remove the broken pieces of the retaining bolt. Is this going to weaken the carrier to the point that I should replace it do you think? could I weld it?

Go to Cascade Wrecking in Mill Creek and get another carrier.

I cracked the carrier on a buddies 7.5" in his S10 from trying to get that pin out, been driving it for like 5 years now. lol.

If I cared about the axle innards I wouldn't just run it, but if I had a spare and wasn't planning on being too hard on it, why not? /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The lock screw is fine and I am just using for a daily driver. No hard wear and tear.
