Today my boss has asked me (the facility maintenance guy) to work as a security guard, again.
It seems today managers are getting the axe and tomarrrow the rest of the little people get it...

I am the guy that deliveres the boxes and watches the doors...

so I guess tomarrow i sport my compact .45 just in case...

I friggin hate being the godamn angel of death around here ... guess it beats unemployment though...

Yep, I can chime in on this one. I got axed yesterday. I work, well I guess I should say worked, in telecom. Anything having to do w/ technology has had a rough ride the past year or two.

To hell w/ this working crap -- it's getting in the way of having fun working on my Jimmy! /forums/images/icons/grin.gif /forums/images/icons/grin.gif /forums/images/icons/grin.gif

I've got 23 yrs with SWBT (Systems Tech)...they're fixin' to layoff another 3000 and have started with a repairman in my town...things are lookin' pretty skinny since there are only two guys with my title in this town, and I'm number Two...stock is at 22.37 (down over $22.50 this year), so my pension fund is $hit, 401K took a huge hit, I'm too young to retire, and too old to start over...sorta wishin' I hadn't sold my rent houses...scary times these days....

    K5Jimmy,
That's rough, man. Hang in there...

I was w/ Nortel. Came on 2+ yrs ago so don't have a whole lot time invested w/ them but I put enough $ into the stock purchase plan where I took a beating. 2+ yrs ago stock was at $80/share, now it's $0.60/share -- yep that's 60 cents a share. Actually, my wife was with Nortel as well but she got axed during the 1st wave of layoffs about a year and a half ago. So it's been a hell o' a ride to say the least! /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

Fortunetly, I am still employed. I also have never exersized any stock options. My wife and I put all our money into property... errr poverty.. in the silicon valley. Property values are still holding.... for now.

People I've known the entire time I've done this type of work are now looking for a job..

Some of the worst stuff is I know a couple of single mom's that are now out of work. I cant imagine trying to pay rent and feed my kids and keep health insurance.. I feel terrible for them. One of the ladies has a son with down syndrome (sp?)...

gona go have a toke and try nott to think about it anymore

Just got a newsletter (actually came from the business wire that feeds the San Antonio news)...SBC is laying off another 11,000 by the end of the year (over 13 states) sayin' that about 25% will be managers, but they are still cutting Waaay deep in my little town (Greenville, Tx)...scary days... /forums/images/icons/confused.gif
