I'm going to headquarters monday night to chat with the Sgt for the Auxiliary police. I'm already qualified, I guess by being a high school grad and physically fit (ha ha ha ha). In the past, you were a full-blown PO, but unpaid. Now, you don't need to be a PO, but you can't write summons' or make arrests, only call things in to real cops. I would be a "Part-time Peace officer". Go on patrols in my home precinct in a radio car, optionally carry a weapon. Possibly deputized during emergencies, or direct traffic in parades. All volunteer work, which sucks, cause I was starting to look into getting a second job. I have no law enforcement experience. I'm looking into this for two reasons; 1. I want to help cleanup/keep clean the community where it looks like my kids will be rooted 2. I want to teach my kids to be active citizens. That sounds so idealistic it's almost liberal... less important reasons: -I'm hoping it will speed up my pistol license -I want the crappy neighbors to see paraphernalia and think I'm a cop so they keep more to themselves...(or shoot me in my sleep). -I want to ride a police motorcycle This may go no where. I may interview with the guy monday night and find out I can't commit to it because of my job's on-call requirements. So Bubba, DR, other LE, what are your thoughts?
