I think I have an internal head gasket leak between cyls 5 & 7 (verified with compression guage). Will it hurt to drive it as long as I have coolant and monitor the oil for coolant in it?

If you let it go long enough you might burn a groove in the head where the gasket let go, but its unlikely. Id say get it changed as soon as you can, but dont expect everything to be peachy when you take it apart.

Have you tried to use some of those block seal or radiator seal?
I have before and most of the times it fixes it.
I only had one engine so far not work with these things and I am going to take it apart this week end to see why not.

I used some bars leak a while ago when my radiator was dribbling a bit. Other than that, no. I suppose I could put some block sealer in. Any opinions on it?

I finally got the head off. Boy, now I understand one reason diesels are so heavy. It was actually leaking from a water jacket into Cyl #7. It wasn't in too bad a condition, just a little pitting. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif I'm gonna clean it up and put it back on and then do the other side for a little insurance.
