Lock-rite in gov lock?

Discussion in '1973-1991 K5 Blazer | Truck | Suburban' started by **DONOTDELETE**, Dec 25, 2000.

    Can you install a lock-rite into a gov-loc carrier?

PowerTrax has a new locker that's supposed to be available for some posi cases. It's pretty new but I'll bet that Randy's or Reider Racing could tell you if it's available for your diff yet.

I wouldn't waste my time with the damn Gov-Loc, even if it will fit! They are the worst! Have broken two in two different trucks, they just won't stand up to any abuse. Go down to your local drivetrain shop, and ask to see the pile of scrapped Gov-Locs, I bet it's a big one!!!! :)

kpanza, I think what he wants to do is scrap the Gov-Lock and install a Detroit or EZ locker in its place. But they won't fit inside the Gov-Lock case. He'll need to replace the whole case with an open diff. Powertrax is coming out with some lockers that will fit inside a non-open case so you don't have to change the case to install it. Haven't seen a list of available applications yet. The Gov-Lock case should be plenty strong. It's the Timex gears and the flyweight in the Gov-Lock that cause it to self destruct.
