well it seems that my wifes old escort is totalled. We can't afford a new car, and we're going to have a bit of car debt to pay off from the old one too... so we need something cheap that isn't a death trap. The last wreck scared me enough that I don't care about paying a bit more in gas. Anyway, we were thinking maybe an 80s s-10 blazer or bronco II. Something with a real frame that I can put a serious bumper on to keep her safe. Anyway, if anyone has something like that FS or knows someone that does, lemme know. thanks!

damn, this is harder than I thought. Murphys law... when I wasn't looking it seemed like I was constantly tripping over cheap old SUVs but now that I need one I can't find one for nuttin. We've called in on about a dozen classified ads... most were sold.. some didn't respond to (multiple) messages and the couple that we did go look at were dogs. I'm not an engine guru, but I know when something is running like chiat. :( Our requirements aren't that stringent... it pretty much just has to be under $2k, an automatic and have a real frame of some sort... it would also be nice if it wasn't a fullsize cause she has to commute 30 mi each way daily. 2wd would be fine, body damage ok, rust ok, lots of cleaning up needed ok, small electrical issues ok, busted glass ok, no stereo ok, ghetto rims ok, bald tires ok, bullet holes OK!!!!!! still no luck. dang this sucks. the longer we go without a car for her, the longer I have to get up at 7am to driver her around and not get home from work to sleep until after midnight. I ain't gonna live past 30 with that schedule... :(

    Have you checked Craigs list?
A couple weeks ago there were a few s-10 blazers for like $800

We picked up one of them for $400.:D 89 with a strong 4.3 and a blown up rear end. We checked out another 85 that was REALLY nice looking except for windshield cracks. Had a bad cam I think in it's 2.8, but could be driven home easily. Had them down to 500, probably could have gone 400, they didn't have anyone else looking at it. I could probably find the link if you want.

I saw a little s-10 blazer on Hwy 99 last night for $1995. It looks like it has a 3" lift and 31's on it. IIRC, it has a custom tube front bumper and stuff. don't know if that's even remotely close to what your looking for.

BTW, if you're interested in a cheap car, let me know. The buick is up for sale right now. Gets about 24 MPG w/ the newer 3800 and tranny in it. Slap on a set of seat covers and go.

we looked at a lot of rigs the last week... but the best running one we test drove was a '91 furd exploder this afternoon. We're gonna pick it up on Monday. Little cosmetic poop I can deal with (it definitely has a few issues)... I was mainly looking for something safe that had an engine/tranny that ran well and I think thats what we're gettin'. I don't really know chit about furds, but oh well, something new to learn I guess. ;) It has a real frame, plenty of room, and its a heck of a lot safer than her old escort was (wait until I get jek-designed bumpers put on the thing!!!). anyway, thanks for the tips guys. I found this one via craigslist... pretty good place to find a car it seems. When things settle down over here, I might end up selling my 94 ranger and using the $ to get a 5-speed Geo Metro and the old ford tow rig I wanna get... pocket the rest of the $$$. :)
