'78, 33x12.5 tires. otherwise stock. What can I do to see why my steering is so loose? I have to really over steer to correct sideways travel down the road. Are my steering gears loose or are the tires doing it or something? Power steering,Auto trans,4x4...Thanks.

My 77 does the same thing, I have to hold the wheel about 30 degrees to the left to keep it going strait. If I let go it starts it starts to pull to the right.

Sounds like you both need to check for worn steering componets, and get to an alignment shop.

    Keep it simple!

I'll have steering stuff checked out for good measure..Also>>.do large tires ever get flat spots if they sit up not driven for 2 or 3 days? seems like it is a little bumpy until the tires warm up a little. Thanks for info.

I replaced my steering stabilizer and that solved most of my steering problems. I had to correct left and right and left and right to keep my truck going straight. I had 10 degrees of play in the steering. If you haven't already, try a new stabilizer.

Are the front suspension/steering pieces on the 4x4 trucks the same????Sorry if this sounds dumb, but I have found some differences when trying to interchange parts before between 4x4 GM trucks and my 4x4 K5.

I can narrow some of the steering stuff down for you, I hope. If your vehicle tracks straight, but the steering wheel is off center, your drag link is not "centered". If you get more response turning the wheel one way than the other, then you may have worn drag link ends (balljoints I believe they have on them) If your truck consistently pulls to one side when you let off the wheel, you need an alignment.

Changing your steering stabilizer didn't solve a thing, it just hides the real problems better.
