Just out of curiousity, what makes the Warn 8274 so special that it has a loyal group that warship it?

AFAIK, its fast and holds 150' of cable... and thats the main draw.

Ahh, ok! I'd had no idea. Nobody in my area has a winch. I'm going to be the first. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Don't forget that it uses a spur gear drivetrain, not a planetary, it is super reliable, and *seems* to pull better, which may have something to do w/ its speed. One more bene, and there is no way this was part of the orignal design plan, when using a planetary style winch the wire rope (cable) acts as a heatsink to cool the motor, when you replace that w/ synthetic line it keeps heat in. With the 8274's seperate motor and drum this is not an issue.

Also, somewhere else you mentioned you didn't care about winch speed. It may not have mattered in your last roll over/flop, but sometimes line speed can save your butt. Ask Grim if he thinks a fast winch is a good thing.
