You need a handgun to fight with until you can get to your rifle.

Wouldn't you be worried about overpenetration? A rifle will go through interior walls.
A 16" shotgun with birdshot would be ideal.

Yeah, I had to change loads in my nocturnal weaponry for that reason. Before we had our son, wall perforation wasn't an issue, but now there is a humanoid that I really like on the other side of the wall in the direction of the door from the bed. I don't want to hurt him or give HCI any ammunition to use against us /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif.

18" IIRC- At least it is in NYS, but I believe it is nationwide.

im not a big believer in using a magnum load at close range, Would rather use a light load + tight choke to have more control.

    Yeah it
    s 18"

You can own a factory origional gun with a barrel shorter than 18" with a tax stamp I believe. They make these tiny little models 14" 4 shot 20's. See them on gunbroker for $500 or so.

    I stand corrected.
Minimum rifle barrel length is 16"
Minimum shotgun barrel length is 18"
