Just did this... pull out the clip, take some needle nose pliers and squeeze the retaining ring( spring) tabs towards one another while gently pulling out on the hub. May have to rotate and giggle ,but comes right out!

If you have pulled apart the hub assembly(is that the spring you are talking about?), I'm laughing ... did that when I first got my truck. Took me hours to figure out how to put it back together! Don't need to do that ... if you did, discard and work on the retaining clip (ring right at the lip of the hub/rotor), and pull the rest of the hub out.

I removed the outside clip and thats what popped the spring off, now I'm lost because there are two clip looking things on opposite sides in there, I tried prying them apart and pushing them together, I even tried pulling the clips out and I could not get it loose

    Re: manual hub installation

I haven't done anything with a snap ring, where would that be, I've unscrewed the cap, removed the ring about a half inch in from the end of the hub that holds the spring on, spring came off, now I've been told to push the two clips together and pull, I've been using 2 screwdrivers because the needlenose do not open wide enough to get both clips, anyone know what my problem is? Thanks in advance

the tool that you need to use is pliers that are specifically designed for snap rings. i think they are called snap ring pliers. you can find them at nearly any auto parts place for probably about 10 bucks. if i am remembering correctly i think you can see the end of the axle shaft. i think the snap ring is touching the shat, but inside the locking washers. You will need the snap ring pliers to close the snap ring inorder to take it off. i think onw thing that would help if you havn't already done it is to clean the insed of the hub where you are working very good. you might just not be seeing it. i hope this helps. if you could describe what you are seeing or take some pics. good luck
