I have a chance to buy a 2000 , 330 hp marine engine. It has the vortec heads and aluminum high rise intake for a 4bbl carb. It threw a rod threw the side of the block. Is it worth $250.

if they are close by get all the info you can on the engine and I'd ask a marine engine rebuider, some of the engines ARE different and run different cooling paths than a standard automotive engine. But if you ask a local marina they should be able to direct you to a knowlegable engine shop.

Even if the cooling paths are the same as an automotive engine, I'd advise to be wary of cracked valve guides and bent valves. Often, when a rod gets thrown through the side of a block you end up with a piston mashing the valves.
