Men whose masculinity is challenged become more inclined to support war or buy an SUV, a new study finds.

Their attitudes against gays change, too.

Cornell University researcher Robb Willer used a survey to sample undergraduates. Participants were randomly assigned feedback that indicated their responses were either masculine of feminine.

The women had no discernible reaction to either type of feedback in a follow-up survey.

But the guys' reactions were "strongly affected," Willer said today.

"I found that if you made men more insecure about their masculinity, they displayed more homophobic attitudes, tended to support the Iraq war more and would be more willing to purchase an SUV over another type of vehicle," said Willer said. "There were no increases [in desire] for other types of cars."

Those who had their masculinity threatened also said they felt more ashamed, guilty, upset and hostile than those whose masculinity was confirmed, he said.

Well, I've got two K-5's and a K-10............guess mine was challenged..................or I like my frigging Chevy Trucks! While I'm at it, blow them there terrorists up!!!

I wonder how they " challenged the test subjects masculinity"?

To me, my masculinity can't be challenged, unless I let it.

This is just a political and social commentary masquerading as science. And the tragedy is, our tax dollars probably funded the damn thing.

And RJ, while true masculinity isn't bravado, bravado is the commonly accepted definition of masculinity. Since only alpha males are allowed to breed, this is why the women go for the ass***es of the world. They display the bravado, they get the chicks.

Of course, if we could get people to not mistake bravado for confidence, the world would be a happier place. I think.

If I was really fit, I'd wear a dress, maybe someday. I nice plain straight one that's dark navy with small dark cream flowers.... and a purse.... with a gun in it.... cause dresses usually don't have belts
