How much redness is normal around healing wounds?

I'm on a fairly good remove the puss / clean / disinfect trip, but the brands are still a bit red

Having a fairly dirty job it's normal for any 'boo-boo' I get to get a little red around the edges until it heals. I recently punctured the back of my leg climbing a chain link fence while drunk off my a$$ and it's got a 3/16" ring of red around the wound. Not pretty, but I'm not worried.

Red streaks are bad...and if it gets to that point I'd go to the doctor quickly.

    So, how bad is it?

relax, i'm sure you've got plenty of hours left to live. An easy way to
determine is how far the infection is from brain. If its 18 inches, the you
have about 18 hours left to live, etc.

j/k of course, as mentioned above, its the red streaks that make it "serious"

So if it's only two inches from his penis then he only has a couple of hours? /forums/images/graemlins/yikes.gif

Redness (erythema) around a wound is normal - it is your body concentrating blood to that area to both aid in repairing the injured tissue and fighting any infection.
How much is normal is subjective. I'd say if you are concerned about it, make sure to clean the area well with soap and warm water, let it soak for a bit, and apply an antibiotic ointment like triple aintibiotic ointment.

Cool. I'm usually solid wound wise but I'd hate to be my own endtimes by not taking care of my hand. I don't use my lefthand much, but it's been a great pal. [insert onanism themed joke]

I saw a guy who killed himself by holding a circular saw to his neck with duct tape.... and then reaching up and pulling the trigger, his wounds didn't get infected, so your prolly ok...
