At school I am done all the assigned school projects for metal, so now i have time to make some stuff I want.
Right now I am making a set of candle holders for my mom for x-mas. After that I will make a set of coat hooks for my uncle/auntie. And after that I dont know what to do. I wanted to make a welding table, but with metal prices, and the cost of 3/8" or however thick of metal for the top, that will get expensive. I have access to a welder, a forge, a lathe, sheet metal tools, band saw, etc. But I dont know what to make. I am not the sharpest tool in the shed, so I cant build a hard project, like a rocket /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

    Any sugestions?

talk to jjlaughner and see what he did for his front spring hangers, then see if you can duplicate it for yours. run 52s up front.

well, first off , Don't knock your abilities, everybody had to start somewhere! My first metal shop project was 20 someodd years ago, and I remember cutting 2 gears on a mill and a lathe , then making shafts for both gears, they ran 90 degrees to one another in a steel frame, won me 1st place at the high school show, if I can do it you can definatly do it.

try to duplicate an engine connecting rod. will definatly take some thinking and some good work! /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

    Weapons

Tool and Knive steel are probably not an option, so maybe try for a polearm or mace

Those are all good suggestions, but I don't really want to make anything for my truck. I want to make something I can use after I finish it, not wait 1 or 2 years after the blazer is "finished" /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

    I agree with the mace.

How about a coat rack? When I first learned how to weld I made a coat rack out of 1.5 X 1.5 box. Thing had to weigh a 100 lbs when I was done.

A homemade mace would be cool though.

How about some big-ass jack stands.

You won't have to wait long to use them /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif.

what is a mace? I may make jackstands, but I dont know how to make them.

I cut a chunk of 1/2" or so steel for the replacement bolt for my floor of the blazer. NExt week I will drive and tap it.

I dunno if I would trust even my home made jackstands.....

A mace is a cub with a flanged, spiked, or otherwise shaped steel head for the smashing of flesh, the pulping of bones

    Go hickory on the handle

    Have fun!
