    Hey all,
I know some of you are not fans of mini-spools. However, they are very cheap, effective and I could install it myself(i believe). I'm a youngster with little cash flow. so, question one- will a mini-spool fit in the open carrier of my '82 rear 10 bolt ? two- how do you remove the c-clips off the axles ? three- is a c-clip elimanator kit worth or easy to install ?four-how do i remove the spider gears etc ? Any ideas and tips will be appreciated !! "Anything else i should do while i'm in there" ?
    Thanks,
    Blake

    Blake,

Do you have a warm garage to work on your K5? If so, I would be glad to help you. Send me an email and we will get together.

    1. Yes there is a mini spool available for your app.

    2. Take the centers pin out of the carrier and then push in axle shafts. Then, Turn the carrier in the housing until you can see the backs of the clips and the pull them out with a pair of needle nose pliers.

    3. DO NOT USE A C-CLIP ELIMINATOR FOR OFFORAD! They are made and designed for drag racing and cannot handle the side pressures of offroad!

    4. Whe you have the carrier out of the housing and the center pin out the spider gears should just pull out!

One last comment. Summit racing has a mini spool that will work in the rear(and front) of a 10 bolt(and 12 bolts) and you can still use your c-clips!!! They are around $120 and come in a few piece and you install them simiilar to a regualr/soild mini spool!

    HTH!!!

    Emmettology,
There is a Auburn mini-spool in Jegs for about $100. The picture makes it seem like a 1-piece deal. It also says you can use the c-clips. What are the differences between a multiple piece one and a 1 piece ?

I would think the one piece unit would be a little stronger, but I was told( when calling sround) that the one piece units from Auburn wont work with C-clips. Make sure you check into this before you buy! :)
