I've had a hankerin' for a good old stuffed to the brim american-style burrito all day today... Since Qdoba isn't open yet and Big City Burrito blows chunks, I figured I could make my own just as well... I went to the Mexican food store, saw a pack of flour tortillas are $5, which is all the cash I had... Crap, nothing beats fresh tortillas... NOTHING...

I had to go to Safeway across the street, and the only flour tortillas they have are Mission 10". I HATE Mission tortillas... I don't like them at all... They don't roll well, and they don't taste all that hot either... They're too thick also... I guess they're good for your average white guy, but I grew up with Mexican food made by authentic Mexicans, and nothing ticks me off more than bad Mexican food.

Anyway, I got some tortillas, beans, and mole verde for the price of a pack of fresh tortillas, and now I'm grubbing on beef&bean burritos with all the trimmings...

They look like hell though... and there's like 6" of tortilla wrapping the filling... Damn white boy tortillas:doah:

Hmmmm....ya got me thinking. A carne asada chimi from Nico's sounds good about now...wait...then again Sanchez sounds pretty good too.:D

Back in Feb. I went back to Maryland to visit a buddy that grew up out here. I took a cooler full of tamales from a coworker for him. I believe it was 5 dozen...I'm not sure they lasted 2 weeks.

When you're the only place in town to buy the real deal, you can pretty much charge whatever you want... Plus you get a friggin crap load more than a pack of Missions... They don't mess around at the Tortilla Factory

I love Mission Tortillas. As for the ease of rolling them, apparently this must be a state secret or something. 15-20 seconds in the microwave and you can roll them easier than a homeless whino right after government check day.................:D

Here ya go Burrito boy compliments from my better half:

    Flour Tortillas
    makes 12
    3 cups flour
    1/2 teaspoon of baking powder
    1/2 teaspoon of salt
    2 table spoons of oil
hot water (to make dough smooth)

Combine dry ingredients, add oil. Begin adding enough hot water to make a smooth dough. Knead dough about 1 minute; let rest. Divide dough into small balls. Roll each ball into thin circle. Cook on a hot, dry griddle, each side about 30 seconds, until bubbly. Turn until done, about 1 minute.

LMAO. I LOVE fresh (And I mean piping hot from the skillet) flour tortillas. Mission tortillas are actually prety decent once you heat them up, learn to use the microwave dummy. I normaly dont like corn tortillas at all but they are prety damn good when they are also piping hot fresh, such as you will find in the rio grande valley of South Texas. Dont even try to talk to me about "real" mexicans in Colorado :D .
