Aiight guys, here goes. I'm going to be ordering a pair of full-length headers here soon. I need pros and cons of these brands:

    Dynomax
    Flowtech Afterburners
    Hedman Street Headers
    Hooker Competition
    Summit performance headers

Those are the brands I'm looking at. Tell me any complications you've had, as well as clearance problems. If you have part #'s, give 'em to me. I've rid my truck of smog stuff, so no AIR injection, and no heat riser. I will be running a catalytic converter, but I'll be fabbing up the Y-pipe for a single exhaust.

hey, I got Hooker Super Competition headers and I absolutely LOVE them! Incredible performance gains, and they sound real nice.

I got them from summit racing for pretty cheap too!

I run Hedmans (Sorry - Have long since forgotten P/N), and have had no problems, other than wishing I'd popped for Jet Hot or CeramaKote. Excellent clearance too.

I'm so poor I can't even pay attention [IMG]

man, go to bed. My manifolds do leak, so I might as well replace them when I'm doing exhaust. They're cracked, how sucky is that. Sounds good? hah! Sounds shitty to me. I'm going flows with a high flow cat. We're doing the headers. I want something that seals good, I'm gonna run dead soft aluminum gaskets. Plus, those ceramic coated headers sure do look sweet..

Ouch!!! $300 for super comps?!?! Man, I'm trying the cheap(er) route. What about Hooker comps? $150 is more along my budget...

Man, I'm just a poor college student. I'm looking for something descent that is cheap. If I wanted to sell my left nut, then I'd buy Thorely's. Long and short, $300+ is way too much for headers. [IMG]

Im just an under paid non-college grad computer programmer..... :( [IMG] I need to talk to my mom...I mean my boss about that....

All I know dude..... Is that headers leak more often that not. I dont care what they say on here. Since your stock manis are already leaking, then go for it. Get some Headmans and some REAL good gaskets. I'll help you put them on.

Well, I think I should be good, I don't mind getting dirty once in a while an retorquing come bolts and/or replacing gaskets. I'm gonna talk to my friends dad about beding me up some pipes so I can run full-length headers and a single exhaust. So, if all goes well, I'll have a full mandrel bent exhaust. I know they'll leak. I had heard good things about flowtech afterburners. We'll see what other CK5ers say when they wake up.

BTW, you should talk to mum about getting me a job. [IMG] Maybe I could make more money than at Advance. It's getting old helping ungrateful people with more money to buy cool [censored] for their cars. Oh yeah, and I forgot to mention how fun it is replacing old ladies batteries and wiper blades.

Bill Collector eh? Let's see, big ass gun + big tall guy in a trechcoat = paid bills.. If they don't produce money, I'll just take it off their cars or out of their homes. I'll rob from the poor so I can buy food and toys for my truck. [IMG]

LMAO! [IMG]... Well to the question...

If you are just gonna get this thrown back in to a single cat system I would look into some shorties... That or try scoping out some factory replacement manifolds. I don't see the need for some big headers and all the added heat (#1 problem IMO) if it is just going back to a clogger (single) exhaust. Unless it is 3" at least all the way back (which would mean a 3" hi-flow converter too) it is gonna be a restriction for full length headers. Another item is alot of times some torque is lost w/ the fullsize header.... another reason to consider a shorty.

But if you are looking headers... I love hookers.. no matter which type. They fit the best IMO. Great product. Heddman suck canal water! Don't fit for crap... bad quality IMO... etc. Thorleys and the Flowtech afterburners look really good for the torque loss item... I have heard awsome results on both. The last one I'll add in is Dynomax... they are a cheapie, but decent IMO... take a little dinging here and there to fit... but really a pretty decent value IMO.

I have really never had any leak problems w/ anything I've run except the headmans... they were just junk. Make sure you get a high quality Mr. Gasket Ultra Seal, ROL, or Fel-Pro gasket set. Chuck the ones that come w/ the headers away! Soak the gaskets in water before you install them... it's an old racer's trick. Generally I end up retorquing them a few times, but if you are concerned of find a problem w/ the bolts backing out try the new lclip locking header bolts from Eastwood. They have a clip that locks the bolt in place. That or good ole lock washers and loctite work dandy too.

yeah, I'm really leaning toward the flowtech's. Thety look promising, and they only cost $135.. That's right in my budget.

I bought the ceramic coated Flowtech Afterburners from Summit about 6 months ago when I put in my new GM 350. I had no clearance problems getting them in to my 86. Everyone here is right. They do leak. I have to tighten mine about once every 3 weeks. And I have the same dead soft aluminum gaskets you're talking about. I also bought the stage 8 locking header bolts. That was a waste because I can't fit the locking rings on the bolts because they don't fit between the pipes. No rust on the headers yet. Overall, I think they're a good investment but they require a lot of re-tightening

If you want relly low buck, dynomax is having a $25 rebate offer on headers, you could get the black painted ones for about $65 after the rebate. Or, if you want looks, you could get the Jet hot coated ones for $209 minus the $25 rebate and only end up paying $184 for Jet hots. And about the afterburners, i was thinking of getting some of those, anyone have experience with them?

I have the hooker competition and they work great. I did have a small leak on the back driver side at first. I put two sets of gaskets on and it has stayed sealed for 2 years now. The only thing I would do different is get them ceramic coated if I had the $$$.
