Why is it so hard to find a utility to format songs to Mp3? Windows media will do it, but only at low quality unless you buy an upgrade, wtf? I have been ripping stuff to WMA at high quality, now I want to format to mp3 so I can make a cd to play in my car which will read mp3's but not wma.

Checked on C/Net but most I could find were trial programs where you have to buy it to actually use it. Any recommendations for a basic encoder program that is free? I also don't want to download and install a bunch of different programs to see if they work which is why I am asking for recommandations. TIA

Windows Media Player 10 will do MP3 at 128, 192, 256 and 320 kbps. That's not high enough????

If you want a smaller bitrate (for MP3 players and stuff) you can set it as low as 64 kbps.

Have to check my version...I thought it was the latest....when I went to the encoding options I think the highest it would let me do is like 52 kpbs, and when I looked for upgrades through MS it gave me a list of MP3 plugins or something that were like $20 to buy  :dunno:

dBpowerAMP Music Converter is great! Is it free forever or is a 30 day trial? I thought I saw something that said 30 days remaining when I was going through the options. Otherwise it does everything I was looking for in a program. :woot: :waytogo: Thanks!
