MTV is terrible now. It really is. I can'r describe it. It's a complete and utter letdown everytime I watch it. It's like having a caring and loving mother for 20 years, and then walking in on her while she's doing heroin.....

As far as California was concerned, MTV didn't show up until '82 when it was introduced during The Who concert.

So it was only a year old in CA.

MTV destroyed rock... or has at least done it's best to kill it...

Anyone here who's old enough to remember pre-MTV days can remember how when a new album was released, it was all about the tunes... Thats all there was!

Didn't matter what they looked like, what director was working with them or if you owned stock in Aquanet, the bands merits where based on what was coming out of your speakers...

I enjoy a cool video as much as the next person, thats just the subliminal thought in my brain on the subject...

And definitely, Headbangers Ball was great about 80% of the time... I'm utterly amazed that they think going right from a rap tune to rock to RB from 1 video to the next, is a good approach... Most don't want that diversity.. I know if they did "blocks" of metal or rock, I'd watch...

The "Sweet 16" stuff is soooooooo "Whats wrong with this country?", it's not even funny... Every one of those spoiled brats should have to go work in a sweatshop for a year...

Doods actually played guitar solos back then...for 99.5% of todays bands that is a foreign concept. If you couldn't play VH's eruption or were unable to make your whammy bar sound like an elephent you were dismissed by your local garage band peers and sent packing.

    Most music is dead.

Music hasn't been good for a long time. I think there are sevral reasons. Most musicains can't play or sing, they're studio creations. Example Lincoln park. I watched them a couple of years ago live somewhere and the lead singer COULD NOT SING. Another problem is corparate radio. Big companies bought up all the radio stations, which lead to standarized playlist. The other is M TV, which controlled who got played, which caused who got listened to. MTV caused more havoc on the music industry than anything else. If you band didn't fit the mold you didn't get played or noticed. Just look at the bands from the 80's and dig how different they were and how with a very few exceptions there is nothing worth while anymore. God I feel like a old man. But the majority of music I listen to is from the 80's or early 90's. With a few exceptions.

There is still good music out in this world you just have to look for it. Most of the stuff I listen to is underground. Or unsigned bands. Also I get alot of stuff from Europe..
