Put brakes on the van yesterday, and my 3.5 year old son helped. Took a bit longer in general, but it's worth every extra minute to have him there with me.

It came time to put the wheels back on, and he asked me what the lugnuts were. He has toy workbenches with nuts and bolts, so I told him it's a nut like his nuts and bolts in the house. He looked it over carefully inside and out, then felt the tiny threads on the lug (much smaller than the huge threads on the toy bolts!), and said, "Can I put them on?" I said, of course, "Sure, Buddy!" I put the wheel on, and he proceeded to put all 5 nuts on the lugs without a bit of trouble, and then I showed him how to use the 4-way tire iron. He had a little trouble using the thing since it's more than half his height, but once he got the hang of spinning it with one hand and holding it with the other, he spun all 10 nuts down snug all by himself!!!

I told him he was a Rock Star and a Natural Car Guy! All I had to do was drop the front of the van and do the final tightening. I was amazed to some extent, not really that he was able to do it, but that he did it on his first try with so little trouble. He's only 3.5 and swinging tools more than half his size!

    /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I's such a Proud Papa!!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Today a 4-way tire iron, tomorrow, tuning a 600hp OBDII computer...
