    Your guitar came tuned, right?

My big suggestions -- guitar tuner, metronome, and some practical method books from to local music shop

If you can read tablature, try www.ultimate-guitar.com

Also, try and find a table of chords, it'll help a ton, `especially when you get into stuff like Bm7#^4th power

squier made by Fender. Good starter set-up. Ive had many kinds of guitars over the years and now back to just one Ibanez.

Best thing to do is hook up with someone who has been playing for a long time to get you started. Finger exercises on the fretboard help too. Your left hand (if your right handed) fingers are numbered from the index to the pinky 1,2,3,4 with the thumb labeled as "t". start on the first fret on the high E string with the index finger and play, then finger #2 on fret 2, then 3 on fret 3, then 4 on fret 4.

play like this for the exercise:

    1234,4321, 1434, 2434.

after playing that move the sequence up the fretboard one fret and repeat. This will train your fingers to move independantly. You should strum the strings alternatively with the index and middle finger. otherwise use a pick.

EGBDF (every good boy does fine) for you basic lines in a treble clef. Substitue the rest of the letters: EFGABCDEF going from the bottom-up lines and spaces.

I can't read bass clef music so I couldn't help you with that.

Can you at least read rythms?

Another good tablature site is Harmony Central. It has thousands of songs. And you dont have to know how to read notes to read tablature. The pictures show you what string to use and the number tells you what fret you should be holding down the string at. Kinda of a quicky way to play music without knowing how to READ music:D

    Nice!

I go with tabs, and will so, unless I really want to learn proper

    Try www.olga.net

Greenday is usually asy as hell to play if you want an easy starter set of songs

What kind of amp do you have?

I've got an entry level Fender amp (15watt) and an ESP EC50 guitar.

    ESP!

    Currently I have an Ibanez rg220b from 2000 , and a Crate GFX-15 practice amp .

What I used to have in 1990-1992 was an Ibanez 540r , with glow in the dark knobs and a Bones Brigade sticker . And then I had a 20 watt Fender amp that I took apart and wrapped the front where the grille cloth was with a Powell&Peralta "Bones" shirt :pimp:
