My old friend from Greeley called me on Saturday and left a message on my voice mail... I hadn't heard from him in like 3 years, we've been doing our own things for quite a while... I called back a few minutes later, and it went straight to voice mail... So I've been sitting here the last couple days wondering if he was ever going to call back so we could catch up, or if he was just drunk enough to want to speak to me...

Then when I came home a couple hours ago, my mom was asking about him, and said she heard on the news he got arrested for vehicular homicide... We checked out the greeleytribune.com and sure enough, Benito Juarez, 21, with a black 94 Honda was arrested... That friggin sucks, he was a cool guy and that car was dead sexy for a Honda... I guess I'll be waiting a while to play catch-up :eek1: :doah:

He called me at 9:27 P.M. and the wreck was just after midnight...

Just be glad you were not "catching up" next to him in the Honda that night.

man I think everyone is either killing someone or getting killed in a car wreck latelly. I work at a shop in a small town ( so I know like the whole town) and two days in a row two people died hitting poles. and I knew one of the people. I had just seen her driving down the road the day before.

I didn't know what to expect when I read the title of this thread... I'm glad it was an accident. A stupid mistake, but not intentional at least.

I got word that an inner-circle friend of mine that I hadn't talked to in years was on trial for murder. He confessed to killing a teenage girl on her lawn.
I thank God it wasn't him, though. He confessed that he couldn't remember that night, but that he was in the area of the murder, desperate for heroine, and he thinks he killed her. That'll freakin devastate you... Until you think back and remember this friend did stupid things like that (confess to crimes he didn't commit).

Sorry to hear about it Carl. It's a sad thing to have a friend going through. It's even sadder for that victims family, though.

Yeah, I've thought about that a couple times too... If he had answered his phone and said come down and we'll hang out, I probably would've gone and planned to crash on his or my brothers couch that night, and therefor probably would have been in the car... Unless of course I was with him during the drinking and could've stopped it... Either way, it really sucks... I want to say I hope he gets off the hook, but if there was drinking involved he's gotta do the time... I always say drunk drivers don't get in enough trouble, I should probably stand by that.

    A general statement

A drunk driver is a murder waiting to happen

I have less than zero empathy for them

They ruin their life... and the lives of others

I probably arrested at least 1000 in my career

    One ended mine.....

So the state patroll suspects he had been drinking earlier in the night and that makes him a drunk driver?

There are normally only 3 ways to be charged with vehicular homicide, you either intentionally do it (Normally a murder charge), you are doing something incredibly stupid (other than DUI) or you get into a wreck while drunk.

Doubtful. Like I said, if you are involved in an accident and they arrest you for vehicular homicide, you were very, very likely doing something stupid. DUI is most likely. Otherwise its just an accident....

I have more details from the story in this morning's paper:

Vehicular homicide, DUI, driving with a suspended license, driving without insurance, and reckless driving... That's quite a list :eek1: friggin idiot, I thought he was a smart guy too

Apperantly they hadn't known each other that long... the 19 year old kids family didn't know Benito, and the kid had only lived in Greeley for a couple months... They were coworkers.
