I got the WTO kit about 6 months ago. and the steering was somewhat slower then i had expected, Now it has gotten worse... Its steers so slow, that i cant even whip the truck sideways and be able to counter steer and bring the ass back around... i usually just end up doing a 180.

Is it normal to be this slow? Could my pump be screwed?
should i just buy a new pump and do the mods again or what?

    Any help appreciated. thx.

The speed of the ram depends all apon how much flow it gets.
You either need a bigger better pump or maybe a smaller pulley on the pump to make it turn faster.

What size ram are you using? Did you drill out the piece in the back of the pump?

i built my own from scratch and it is a little slow at a in gear idle even with the flow piston mods, but it is beacause i used a 2" ram it needs too much fluid, but all i have to do is blip the throttle and im good.

I'd really like to know how to do the home-brew hydro assist mod. I work in a machine shop so drilling and tapping my steering box is not a problem. Does anyone have a list of what they used for parts? And what does it take to drill out the p/s pump for better flow? Sorry for hijacking /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif but this thread got my attention. Thanks /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

its the Ram from WTO that is 1.5" i belive.

Matt did the steering pump mods, but UPS Bent the pulley and the hose on the back of the pump, so i took the parts out of that pump and put them in a diff pump...

Sounds like the first place to start is, getting a new pump and doing the mods again.

    thx.
