    thanks,
    krum

A little smoke with cold engine is normal. Also under full load the Diesel may smoke.
230°F is definitely too hot. Do you have sufficient cooling water, is the radiator dirty or broken, the thermostat functioned correctly (or is a winter thermostat inserted)? Also the water pump, Visco clutch or a cylinder head gasket could be defective.
With the steering it is as all Trucks. Examine first all joints.

The technical explanation for the white smoke: If the engine is still cold, finely injected Diesels settles down at the metal and forms droplets. These droplets cant burn and thus the engine sucked too much air in. Too much air = white smoke.

The driver's side of your engine warms up faster than the other side.

Because of your speedometer I cant say anything. I believe its ratio dont fit your tires.

Are your original tires 235/75 15? Then the ratio of the speedometer is too long around 7%. There are the gear wheels for it to buy and you need one with 2 teeth less.
    38 teeth = bright blue
    37 teeth = bright red
    36 teeth = white
    39 teeth = dark brown
    35 teeth = pink
    34 teeth = natural

15MPH slow at what speed? Speedometer error is a percentage, not an absolute value. Unless the speedo itself is broken, it will not be off the same amount at all speeds.

I just did that. I was doing 45 and the sign said I was doing 35. I wouldn't trust them signs.
If I am on the interstate I use the chronograph on my watch to time 1 mile. 1 mile in 60 seconds means you are doing 60. 55 seconds means 65 mph...50 sec means 70....etc.

Sometimes electronic signs, that are equipped with a radar gun, are put in high traffic areas or places in which people tend to speed. As you approach the sign it displays the speed at which you are traveling. but I do not know how accurate these signs really are.

    The Diesel Page

Might want to look into this website and becoming a member. These people live and breathe 6.2 Diesels. The price is small compared to the wisdom that the site and members have.
