Well, I hadn't gotten down under the truck to check the starter yet because of the drenching rain, I finally went down there to check the voltage at the leads only to find that someone stole my starter....yeah......cut the wires and stole my starter! Thanks for the help anyway

Wow, I think I'd lock the truck up somewhere. No telling when your 10 cent air valve caps will come up missing. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

just thought I might add from the other post, reason for beating on a lame starter isnt the brushes its the solenoid

Actually it could work with both but most of the times it's the bruches.
if you turn the key and ... nothing... then it could be the solenoid, but most of the times you have a click and that is it, because the brushes are so short the spring isn't pressing them on the core, so you hit it and it will shake the brushes and get better contact and the spring loosens up and presses a little more.
Usually that could work for a couple of times then you must change them.
If it's the solenoid, sometimes it's is wedged in there and a tap will loosen it but this is not a very common thing to happen.
I know all this because I rebuilt starters for a living for years.
