The replacement wheel has all five lug nuts glued in place with weather strip adhesive. When the wheel is mounted on the hub, the lug nuts push away from the wheel when they bottom out against the first thread on the studs. The glue is stretched but holds them well enough to keep from falling completely off. The tire changer then tightens them up as fast as he can.

Went to a NASCAR race a few years ago and the morning of the race, walked through the pits watching this task being completed.

I would have to say that this would be the crap job of any pit crew cause all the guys that were doing this were young and looked absolutely thrilled to be glueing lug nuts to wheels.............

    Sweet!
I used to drive the flat bed that RCR owned that year.

I'll have to see if I can get a better shot of the side.
The title shows the original owner was RCR!
My boss took it up when they were in town for some promo stuff a few years back and one of the mechanics recognised it from back in 88.
