    Nead ideas for a \"Family Truckster\"

We've got to pick up something a little more road trip friendly than the Blazer, and more reliable than the Cherokee (OK - not hard to accomplish there) I've got a few strict criteria to meet:

    1) American
    2) Affordable
    3) Relatively new
    4) Capable of comfortably seating my 6'3" 260 pound butt
    5) preferably rear wheel drive

Any ideas? I was considering a C30 crewcab, but all I can find in this state are either lowered or beaten to death.

    Dos mas Tecates!!!

depends on if you want a car or a truck/suv

car wise there is alot out there that fit your criteria... some for truck/suv... need to know what you are looking to spend... what year is the oldest you will go and if it has to be a car or truck/suv...

I'm not too picky - Just looking to get ideas right now. I'm willing to go back to the early 90's for age, I'd also like to get something that isn't too much of a technological terror, more of simple and affordable.

Well... lets see... i know its a furd (but still american..) but depending on the age of kids and how many...There is always the thunderbird... you can get one at a good price.. they travel nice.. get decent mileage. and have plenty of room for stuff... or its counter part the cougar.. I have a 91 tbird supercoupe and 3 kids... being the car is a specialty car with a supercharger its a little more expensive to do anything with but they also offer a standard 3.8 ltr v6 or you can get a v8 model (believe them being a 4.6 ltr and a couple of 5.0 ltrs)... 89 and up are the same basic body style.. now you could look into the grand prix maybe if you would prefer not to have a ford... Either of these are not that hard to work on if needed and usually are rather reliable... As for a truck/suv... there is the 91 and up explorer, s10 blazer/bravada... but personally i think a car will travel better... Just a couple of ideas.. all these can be bought at a decent price and parts are easy to get... usually get a decent one for under 4500 if you need it that low.... or get a really good looking one for around 5500-6000....

I was looking at a nice 93 'Bird today - Took it for a drive and it was a blast. I might go with it if another deal I found falls through - an 87 C30 Silverado crewcab with a Gale Banks turboed 6.2, 4 speed and Ranger overdrive and only 68K original miles for $6000.

90s Oldsmobile Vistacruiser wagon/Buick Roadmaster wagon/Caprice wagon, any of the three with the LT-1 engine (I think the olds looks the best though).

    Suburban!

I've already got one kid, and two will max out my K5 for road trips (gotta keep everyone comfy). The next vehicle I get for the family cruiser will be a diesel Sub.

I'm going with the crewcab pending the loan going through - I was thinking Burb at one point, but I plan on building a race truck in the future, and need room to carry spare bits and pieces.
