need a set of 60/60\'s, which truck to pull from?

I am about to aquire a fullsize blazer frame and am gonig fully custom suspension on it. I should have clearance for 38-44 inch tires (still debating how high I want to go) so I want a set of 60's front and back (or 70 or 14 bolt rear) which truck should I look for as a donor vehicle?

i would get axels from any K30 chevy, up through '87. They had a Dana 60 in the front and a 14 bolt in the back. Plus with the 14b in the back, a locker will be cheap, compared to other axels. At least thats what i would do.

locker? I'll just weld teh spider gears, a 14 bolt is strong enough not to snap axles despite a ton of power. a k-30? sorry, I'm new to chevy's, I'm a jeep man myself but am being given a free frame to work with....I am going custom coiled front and shackle flipped with lift springs rear, this setup is set to give a YJ wrangler 12 inches of lift, so it should do ok on the blazer I would think.....

    no...it is colorado k5 [IMG]
in all seiousnessess 12 inch lift would mean 8 inch springs with a 4 in flip. that is a whole lotta stiffness in those springs unless you pay BIG duckets for a kustom set. why not build a hybred? ( i need speel cheq on this thing) you have the frame, now just build a flat bed and sell the fenders...
early 90's dodge 250's have dana 60 rears and are semi-common in the yards, but i would loof for a 14BFF plus the ever elusive D60 35spline front

a k30 is a 1 ton chevy 4x4 pickup truck. sorry about that. yes, i would weld the gears too, but if you were interested in a locker, its the cheapest way to go. What kind of springs are you going to use inthe rear? Are you going to have a blazer body on it? A shackle flip in the rear is the way to go, but that only gives you 4 in of lift in the back. I dont remember how tall you were going, but if you have a cage body and such you can go relatively tall in the tire dept. without alot of lift, thus remaining flexy.

Best bet is to find a K30 from 1977 to 1987.... if it's not been picked over yet it will have a Dana 60 front and 14 ff in the rear.... [IMG]

Like I said, I'm a Jeep guy...I will probably either custom mat a CJ-8 tub to it or I will use a 1948 willy's puckup cab and a custom bed...or I might use a Jeep M-715 body and bed....too many options!
I was thinking about using Dodge Dakota four inch lift springs (MAJOR arch and an offset pin to lengthen wheelbase) combined with the shackle flip. up front I am using a 4.5 inch grand cherokee lift coil with the coil mount flush with the frame and I'm trying to track down a set of FJ80 control arms to fab on.

The hardest part here is finding the right parts for the right $ and then of course the time this is taking will be a pain in the butt. It should be a fun project though. I do have the body and fenders from this fillsize, they aren't in the best condition but they may be better than what ya'all are currently running (heck, I dunno....) make me ANY offer and they're yours.

Looks like I need to throw in my 2 cents. . .From 73 to 80 or 81 The 14 bolt was a FF with a 10.5" ring gear. From 81 or 82 on it was a SF with a 9.5" ring gear. All of the dualies, I think, had 70's out back. For the front they all had 60's no matter what year. Just a little info from www.ChucksChevyTruckParts.com

The FF was never discontinued...the SF was introduced in the lighter duty 3/4 tons. The FF remained in the rear of the K30 as late as 87 at least.

    K30s were made until 1991, weren't they?

Well, they called them V30s or something, but that's what I'm talking about.

Yep, 1 tons were made clear up to '91.

Yep, they are classified as a "V30". '87 was the year they switch the "K" to a "V" classification.

I was at a junkyard yesterday looking through the parts reference and they ran from 3.42 to 4.56.
