Is there anyone willing to part with a clear title to a 74 or older K5 Blazer? I will need it to smog mine here in CA.
    Thanks,
    David

I have a clear CA title for my 74/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

If I decide to not use the title and you still want it it's yours...

Never tried to find one for a Blazer, but in the past, junk yards have bailed me out several times when I've needed clear titles.....Hope it helps

I'll mark the thread as "Favorite" but send me a reminder anyways. Would you need the VIN plate off the body too? On a 74 it's attached to the door pillar on the drivers side.

74 is now smog exempt in Cali...76 isn't.

    Rene,
Yes I would like the VIN tag. As I remember from my last encounter with the CA DMV they wanted to see the VIN in 2 places or you had to go to the Highway Patrol to get them to give you a new VIN. Is there more than one on yours?

Tell me where to look and I'll have a peek. I only have one VIN that I can find on my 81 Jimmy. There might be a stamped VIN on the frame but I've never found it...

I take no responsibilty for any trouble you might land in with this...I do know the VIN plate uses some wierd rivets that are not commercially available.

If you look on the drivers side top of the frame rail... In front of the firewall the VIN # is stamped there. That is the second place you find it other than the door tag.

No worries Rene I would not hold you responsible.
BTW, The other place the DMV woman found a VIN on my 79 was a sticker in the glove box. It was information on using a slide-top camper on the vehicle. I have never been able to locate the elusive frame VIN so maybe it's just urban legend. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

There is no glove box on my 74...

I had my 81 jimmy bare from the firewall forwards, wire wheeled the frame down to bare shiny steel and never did see any numbers stamped on top of it...maybe they're just under the main body?

On my '82, I think it is on the Passenger side framerail below the door area.

Grumpy.. if your looking for a '74 VIN for smog purposes you might want to check the DMV as to what years are exempt.. It's my understanding that the 30 year rule is in effect.. meaning a '74 won't be smog exempt until next year.. I could be wrong on this,, just the last info I got from this s****y state /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif DMV SUCKS

    To All.
The 30 year program is in effect, and you have to deduct 29 not 30 years to get the exempt years so this year the 74 is exempt.
As for the second VIN, it is on the top side of the frame next to the engine, some years it was on the driver side and some on the passenger side, my 73 was on the driver side, my 74 was on the passenger side.
Now the only thing is I wish I could make sure that next year they will exempt the 75 because I have a 75 that passed smog last year, and if I don;t have to smog it next year I want to remove the stupid AIR tubes and all now.
