I just finished building a 388 stroker for my 84 K5...everything is ready to go but the carb... I had an unknown edelbrock on it before(i removed all the smog crap)... but there were too many vacuum lines off it, so I reached in the extra pile and found a Carter AFB... easy to hook up(only one vac line) right? I just checked the part # and found out it's a 600 cfm carb!!! Is that big enough to power a 420 hp 388? I am going to get a Q-jet soon, but with the money I spent building this engine, im broke... does anyone know what carb to use? is 600 enough? or can someone tell me what all those vacuum ports are for on an edelbock carb? can I just cap them? any info will help... thanks in advance....

What model number is the edlebrock? I have a 1406(600cfm & elec choke) There are only 3 ports on the front. one of them is for the PCV and the other one of the other two is for the vac advance on the distributor. Im not sure what the other one is for. I only have a line running into the one for the PCV, the other two I have open. Seems to work just fine for me but i should cap them off.

    My 73 K5 http://www.geocities.com/xk5blazerx/73k5.htm 350/TH350/NP203, Q-jet, Edelbrock intake, Vortec heads, 4" lift, and 36" TSL's

You could use a bigger carb IF you're planning on running over 5000RPM. Otherwise, your 600 will do fine. I tried a 780 on my 427 and it seemed to pull pretty good above 4500 but didn't seem to have the lowend torque as it did when I ran a 600 carb. Overall, I like the performance of the 600 better, especially the fuel economy. Besides, how often are you over 4500?
