i have a 72 blazer. ive had it for about 3 years and havent really done nothing to it. i bought it really cheap and i want to start fixing it up and also learn how to fix it as well as what parts i have on it like transfer case, tranny, etc. anyways, one of my first questions is: my fronts are 6 lug and dont know what type of axle, my rears are 8 lug and dont know what type of axle. what do i need to do to make the fronts 8 lug. parts and etc. the reason is cuz i want to put some 38 meats on the beast. thanks for all the help and info in advance that is generated.

    First check out
    <a target="_blank" href=http://coloradok5.com/8lugconversion.shtml>8 Lug Conversion</a>
    and
    <a target="_blank" href=http://coloradok5.com/axleguide.shtml>Axle ID Chart</a>

Most likely you have a stock front end which would be a Dana 44. You can either upgrade it to 8 Lug or swap in a Dana 60 (hard to find and $$$...but strong).
Because you have a 72 I would guess you have a NP205 Transfer case and either a th350 (auto) or SM465(4 speed).

Were are you, fill out your profile.
the 8 lugs in the rear is most likely a 14bolt or an old school Eaton rearend. Does the rear end cover look round or odd shaped?

    Rasta,

Yes please fill out the profile.....it will help everyone who's trying to assist you! [IMG]

I'm in the same position as you....If got an 8-Lug 14Bolt for the rear, but I can't swap it in until I get the Dana 44 (the stock front axle for '72) up front converted to 8-Lug also.

If you check the "For Sale" boards you can sometimes find someone selling the 8-Lug conversion parts.....you will typically need new Spindles, Hubs, Backing Plates and Rotors to complete the job. Usually you can get a set for around $200. That's a LOT cheaper than the alternative (Dana 60 axle = $1000 and up!!)

Also, if you go to the '73 - '91 Board, do a keyword search on "8-Lug Conversion" and you should find a bunch of info.....anything written by ThatK30Guy is going to be useful.....that's Wes.....and as far as I'm concerned, he's a GOD when it comes to K5 technical information!!! [IMG]

Whats up rasta one! Welcome Dude!!!

As far as the 8 lug rearend, you don't want it... It's probally uh, weaker. yeah. I have a six lug 12 bolt under my '72 K/5 right now.. what do ya say we trade? Then at least it will match the front! [IMG][IMG][IMG]

I'm not too far from you either... over here in san jose, campbell area. What color is your K/5? I've seen a few around. Is your Blazer your daily driver like mine?

Oh yeah, nice signature. [insert red eyed smily[IMG][IMG]
