I have been helping my friend fix the 14BFF under his 96 Suburban. The pilot bearing at the nose of the pinion has disintegrated. We have removed the 5 bolts that hold the pinion assembly to the case, but we cannot pull it out. So...what is the trick? Is it just bolted on?.....or pressed on or ??????? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/1zhelp.gif /forums/images/graemlins/1zhelp.gif /forums/images/graemlins/1zhelp.gif

Any help is appreciated!! /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif /forums/images/graemlins/burb.gif

I believe you should be able to pull it out.I would pull the diff covr and make sure there isn't any pieces of the bearing jamming in there. If the pinion bearings are that bad I would check the carrier bearings also. And clean the inside to make sure there is no metal pieces floating around.Hate to get it back together than have it really tear something up!Brady

Beat it out. Sounds like it fubared on the inside anyway, so who cares.
You can remove the carrier and see exactly what the holdup is.
