What are the suffix codes if still present? Flat pad on the "deck" passenger side front. 2 or 3 digit code. (not the partial VIN)

    509 is about the most common sbc 400 out there, alot like the 3970010 69-79 350 and 67 68 69 302 engines.

You would love having a built 400, trust me. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif I have around 2,600 to 2,700 bucks in my 406 but I replaced EVERYTHING that goes on the motor. It costs a little more to build a 400 over a 350 if you don't have the flex plate and harmonic balancer. You might be able to get away with a little less than I did if you reuse your existing carb and dist. I spent 300 for my long block core.
$950 for all the machine work and engine kit
    $500 for rebuilt heads
    $100 for performer intake
    $350 for edel performer Q-jet
$75 for used dist with different coil
    $70 for water pump
    $125 for 400 flexplate/balancer
    $125 air filter/vavle covers
probably a few other things I can't remember

I wan't AFR heads too along with a good set of headers.
another $1,700 in the near future. Maybe the edel. pro flow EFI kit one day...$2,000

That sounds like a plan....The AFR's with their well balanced intake/exhaust flows will compliment that single pattern cam even more /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Ok the guy that was going to get mine is looking for one that ends in 11 b/c it supposedly was over 300 hp stock? but idk anyways i guess i will be keeping it then.
Well i have a tbi 350 so id like to try and reuse some form of it. I need to get a replacement TBI unit anyways b/c this one is leaky and not preforming anymore. Im thinking bout holly or edel.TBI unit its like 300 from summit.
I really love this site you can get info so fast from here overnight and even in just a few hours Thanks everyone. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

yeah, with AFR's, 1.6 rockers, headers, and MPFI I would be in the neighborhood of 425 to 450HP and well over 500ft pounds...

[/ QUOTE ] You could get a used TPI system and have a new chip burned for it for around the same amount or less.
