need help with a \'63 wildcat

A buddy of mine has a 63 wildcat that some one gave him... we have been tinkering with it a bit. The problem we have is we cannot get the secondaries on the 4 barrel to open up. He can have it all the way to the floor and there is no difference from barely pressing on the gas. What should we look for?
OH yea... It's got a 401 and 2 speed tranny..

Carb should be a carter. Check secondary lock out and carb linkage. Also check for missing parts. Do the secondaries open by working throttle under hood?

I had a 65 Wildcat for quite a while. I'm pretty sure there is a secondary linkage that prevents the secondaries from opening when its cold.

Riz...mine had the 401, and TH 400 with the variable pitch convertor. At WOT the stator pitch in the convertor would be changed. It would normally be about a 1400 RPM stall convertor...stomp on it hard and it became a 2400 RPM convertor. That car did not 'purr'...it screamed![IMG] I've never had such a big car launch as hard stock! 3.23's and a tight posi helped a bunch too!

I'm gonna hafta dig up a picture soon!

My younger brother had a 68 wildcat, I think I put more miles on it than he did. That car had absolutly no clue what traction was in the rain. It would definately scoot tho!

8.5 mm spiral core wires, and an Accel super coil. Other than that stock. It freaks some people out when i reach in from outside the truck and within 2 or 3 turns it just fires up. I guess they expect an ugly truck to have problems starting or something...
