i have a 465 with a 208. i whant to put a 203 in and get rid of the 208. Did the 465 ever come with a 203 or not.
if so can i bolt up a 203 instead of the 208

I've always heard that the 465/203 combo was only available 1 year, '77 (I think).

Your 465 has a long 32 spline tailshaft which will not work with the 203, neither will the adapter. You need a 10 tailshaft for your tranny and then the elusive 10 spline 203 (with adapter), sometimes you'll see the 203's here in the For Sale forum.

I think it could be done with a T400 version 203

why a 203?
a 205 can be found to bolt up I think easier then a rare 203

74 was the only year that the 465 came with the 203 so it's kind of hard to find the adaptor. Why don't you just use a 205? They're stronger and the 465/205 combo is real common.

He probably wants to put a doubler in... Yes it is completely doable... Keep the 32 spline tranny, it is alot stronger than the 10 spline trannies... In fact most 465s wear out the splines before the inners... Back to the 203 question... What you can do to run a 32 spline 203 that came from behind a th400, is drill and retap the face of the 203 to match the current holes in the 465/208 adapter.... Then plug the old ones... In fact, ORD suggests that this is one of the best ways to mate a 203 to a 465... The only other way I would suggest is to buy one of ORDs new short 32 spline output shafts and adpaters to mate the two....

Unless u want a doubler, do not use a 203 behind a NP465.
I have (and like) a fully functional 203 full time, and the factory did try this with a standard for 1973 only.
Problem is this transfer needs the steady "tug" of an automatic tranny to take up the slack in the chain drive internals. A standard tranny will result in a clunky, jerking clutch engagement.
A doubler only uses the range box itself out of the 203, allowing for smooth operation.
