What is the expert opinion on the Springfield XD .45 ACP? I am looking for a gun and have been partial to .45's but I was sold on 1911's until I was offered a really good deal on the XD ($450.00). What do you think?

Really sweet gun, depending on the model that's a good price too. I like them, I just opted for the Taurus to save a few bucks.

My wife and I have matching .40 xd's. I like them. We got the smaller ones this time for carry purposes and we both have permits. I do miss my 1911's however, I dont miss the size when trying to conceal.

To each there own. As for owning a 1911, the XD is an easy transition. To me, nothing says "concealed carry" like a .357 Magnum w/ a 4" barrel. Don't even have to unholster it. Hell, it could be unloaded and you could beat someone to death with it.

A guy I work with said he didn't like it either, compared to the Sig but then another guy has the XD 9mm and said he loves it. The guy who says he didn't like it said that it DID get gun of the year though , but I don't remember which magazine. People I have talked to said that it shoots like a Glock which I liked shooting in the past.

I like the 357, too. Another buddy of mine says that a .380 Bearsa (sic?) is a great, quality weapon that he recommends for concealed carry. He says it is decent power with NO kick. Really inexpensive, too.

No kidding. Mine would be better suited for beatdown than CCW duty. The ported barrel will make you deaf with a hot .357 load.

To me personally, I don't like Glock. That's what really surprised me about the XD, it's way nicer than a Glock. I have had mixed results when shooting Sig's. I shot some that I liked OK, and a couple of rentals that were so worn out I would have had better luck throwing the bullets at the targets. I have NEVER shot a weapon built by Springfield Armory that I wasn't impressed with. They are definately the best value for the dollar firearms manufacturer out there, but again, that's my opinion.
